A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, 19TH CENTURY. Executed in the traditional old style, here Christ delivers a blessing with his right hand and holds an open book of gospels inscribed with the text from Matthew 11:28. The entire icon overlaid with an exquisite silver-gilt, repoussé and chased riza, with ornate cloisonné halo corner and side decorative elements, as well as a champlevé enameled title plaque affixed to the lower margin. Hallmarked Moscow, dated 1896, Cyrillic maker's mark S.Ye, most likely for Semion Yegornov. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31.1 x 26.7 cm). Together with a glazed shadowbox frame (kiot), not illustrated, 15.5 inches x 13.75 inches (39.4 x 34.8 cm), depth 5 inches (12.7 cm).
