A 17TH CENTURY SPANISH BAROQUE WALNUT AND WROUGHT IRON MOUNTED VARGUENO (SECRETARY) TOP. The rectangular case with scrolling iron lockplate, open strapwork and four sliding latches opening to an interior fitted with 14 drawers of various size, each finely carved in relief with later (probably 19th century) drawer fronts depicting medieval battle scenes, the center drawer in the form of a scalloped niche with a fully carved figure of a Madonna and Child, and with two drawers lower left and right, each carved with an Armorial eagle grasping a crowned shield/crest. Length 37 inches, height 19.5 inches, diameter 13 inches.
