A CARVED BOXWOOD CROSS, MT. ATHOS, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY.  The double sided boxwood cross form pierced carved on the front with the Crucifixion at center, the Resurrection at top, the Entrance Into the Temple at the base and the cross end terminals with two of the Evangelists. The verso carved with the baptism of Christ at center, The New Testament Trinity at top, the Annunciation at the base and the cross end terminal with the other two Evangelists. Contained in a silvered frame with sunburst rays emanating from the center, crown finial, mounted on a shape removable handle set into an ornate silver plated repousséd dome base. Height 11 inches (28 cm).
