AN IMPERIAL RUSSIAN BOMBARDIER OFFICER HELMET OF THE GRENADIER REGIMENT DURING THE REIGN OF CATHERINE THE GREAT, CIRCA 1760'S. A superbly preserved and extremely rare example of an Artillery Corps Bombardier Regiment Grenadier Officer’s Parade Cap. The black leather skull surmounted by flaming grenade finial, with large gilt brass front plate lined in thick red leather, and embossed with the Imperial eagle under the crowned cipher for Empress Catherine II. The crown with gilt ribbon style brass piping and above the back tail, a gilt badge displaying the crowned cipher of Catherine II against a red painted field, and with red quilted interior. Length 17 inches (43 cm).
