A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF CHRIST AS THE LORD ALMIGHTY, CIRCA 1820. Here Christ delivers a blessing with his right hand and with his left hand holds an open book of Gospels to Matthew 11:28, "Come unto ye, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." The borders with family saints, St. John Chrysostum, the Archangel Michael, the Holy Apostle Mark and St. Catherine. Overlaid with a finely crafted silver repoussé and chased riza with attached gilded brilliant halo and enameled title plaques. Hallmarked Moscow, dated 1819, Cyrillic maker's mark Ya M, probably for Jacob Semenov Maslennikov and 84 silver standard. 12 inches x 9.7 inches (30.5 x 25 cm).

The enameled porcelain title plaques mounted on the riza of the offered lot are unique in that each letter is composed of a multitude of enameled beads, linked together to form each letter. A tedious and difficult technique, subsequently few examples exist, let alone survived.
