A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT GEORGE, CIRCA 1844. Finely painted in the Western style, here George riding upon his white steed, plunges a lance into the dragon beneath him. The entire image overlaid with an ornate silver-gilt repoussé and chased riza with enameled title plaque and paste stone embellished halo. The riza hallmarked Moscow, dated 1844 and with Cyrillic maker’s mark GYe and 84 silver standard. 9 inches x 7 inches (23 x 18 cm).
