A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE CARVED, POLYCHROME AND GILT WOOD CHEST IN THE ROMANESQUE STYLE, PROBABLY SPANISH 20TH CENTURY. Resting on four carved feet, the overhanging base carved with floral forms and the sides carved with arched reserves separated by twist carved columns and each set with a polychromed relief sculpted figure of a saint. The large carved hinged lid faced with quatrefoil carved relief center medallion depicting the Madonna and Child, opening to reveal the interior finished in red polychroming. Width 27.5 inches (70 cm), height 16.25 inches (41 cm), depth 21 inches (53.5 cm).
