A FINE CARVED WOOD FIGURE OF A PARTIALLY NUDE WOMAN, CIRCA 1930, WOLFGANG WALLNER (AUSTRIAN 1884-1964). Finely carved in full round from the knees up, of good anatomy and proportions and with cascading hair. Signed on verso of base WOLFG.WALLNER. Height 16.25 (41.2 cm).

Wallner was an accomplished and successful sculptor. In the year 1900 he began his training in the wood carving center of Salzburg where he received a state scholarship for further education. From 1906-1911, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1912, he was made director of the School of Applied Arts in Cologne and in 1923 he was appointed professor. His public works can be found in and around Cologne as well as in private and public collections.
