A RUSSIAN ICON IN FOUR PARTS, 17TH CENTURY. Equally divided in four quadrants, each depicting a different scene. Clockwise from upper left they are: the Nativity of Christ, the Birth of the Mother of God, a group of three saints including Saint John Chrysostum, and the Appearance of the Mother of God and Saint Nicholas to Sexton Georgiy Iurisch. The painted section of the 17th century, set into a later (19th century) panel, a common practice utilized to extend the lifetime of cherished family icons. Verso with old Parke Bernet Auction lot sticker. 12.4. inches x 10.25 inches (31.5 x 26 cm).
