A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE NEW TESTAMENT TRINITY, 18TH CENTURY. Executed on a round wood panel and gilt ground, a finely painted image of Christ delivering a blessing and holding the Gospels (left) and on the right, God the Father. Between them, an orb displaying the implements of the passion, and above, a dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit set upon a multicolored Glory. At the feet of Christ and God the Father are Seraphim and Cherubim. Gilt highlights and fine detailing throughout, including individually painted hairs on both the figure of Christ and God the Father. Probably from an iconostas in a private chapel, in an excellent state of original preservation exhibiting no signs of restoration. Diameter 17 inches (43 cm).
