A FINE SOUTH GERMAN CARVED IVORY AND GILT-COPPER MOUNTED LIDDED BOX, 18TH CENTURY. The sides of the slightly oval box fully carved in high relief with scenes of travelers in a wooded landscape, perhaps explorers. The base set in gilt metal banding and resting on ball feet. The hinged lid with gilt-metal rim and thumb piece, and inset with an oval ivory, carved in high relief and depicting a battle scene. Width 4 inches (10.2 cm), height 3.5 inches (9 cm)
