A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE TIKHVIN MOTHER OF GOD, 19TH CENTURY. In this image the Mother of God gestures towards her son, pointing the viewer to the source of eternal salvation-her son Jesus Christ. On the left border is Saint Alexi Man of God, and on the right border, Saint Ekaterina (Catherine). The entire icon overlaid with a silver and chased repousse riza with attached gilded sliver haloes. Hallmarked Saint Petersburg, dated 1853, with indistinguishable maker mark and 84 standard. 12.25 inches x 12.5 inches (31.5cm x 26.5cm).
