A RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINTS ULITA & KIRIK, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1880. The cult of Saints Ulita and Kirik was quite strong in the 18th and 19th century particularly amongst the Old Believers. Here, mother and son look upwards towards a blessing Christ. The figure of Ulita (Julita) holds her hand in a blessing gesture in the configuration favored by the Old Believers. The icon overlaid with a silver repousse and chased riza, hallmarked Moscow, dated 1882, indistinguishable Cyrillic makers mark and 84 standard. 5.25 inches x 4.5 inches (13.5cm x 11.5cm).
