A VERY FINE CARVED IVORY CORPUS, FRANCO-FLEMISH, 18TH CENTURY. Exquisitely carved in full round with flowing hair, pierced crown of thorns, good anatomy and excellent detail throughout. Finely carved rope draped perizonium with deep folds and carved with open mouth and droplets of blood flowing from the side, hands and feet. Mounted on a carved gilt wood cross with inscribed ivory tablet above, and set on a velvet field within an ornate carved, gilt wood and mirrored frame with large fleur de lis finial. Corpus height 10.6 inches (27 cm), overall height including frame 30 inches (76.25 cm).
