AN EXCEPTIONAL RUSSIAN EN PLEIN AND CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL CIGARETTE CASE, OVCHINNIKOV, MOSCOW 1885. The rectangular case with rounded corners, the hinged lid with large exquisitely painted enamel still life of roses and butterfly banded with a border of turquoise beaded cloisonné enamel and flower heads. The verso also extensively enameled in cloisonné with similar border and large medallion on a stippled gilt ground surrounded by scrolling foliage. The interior gilded and hallmarked Moscow, dated 1895, Cyrillic makers mark A.OVCHINNIKOV & SONS, and 84 silver standard. Length 4.2 inches (10.5 cm).
