A VERY FINE POLYCHROME, GILT AND CARVED RELIEF WOOD PLAQUE OF THE ADORATION OF THE SHEPHERDS, GERMAN 19TH CENTURY.  Finely carved in high relief and in the Neo Gothic taste, the Virgin Mary and Joseph look lovingly upon the newborn Christ who rests in a manger. Above the an ass and ox and adoring shepherds also look on. In the star-filled sky a carved relief angel holding a banner emblazoned 'Glorie in Excelsis Deo'. Height 29 inches (73.5 cm), width 19.5 inches (49.6 cm).
