A PAIR OF IMPERIAL RUSSIAN PORCELAIN DINNER PLATES FROM THE BANQUET SERVICE OF TSAREVICH ALEXANDER ALEXANDROVICH (LATER TSAR ALEXANDER III), IMPERIAL PORCELAIN FACTORY, CIRCA 1888. The cavetto with gilt and red medallion, the scalloped rim decorated with an elaborate border also in red and gold and surmounted by his double “A” cipher beneath the Imperial crown and together with a large matching serving bowl. Underside of each with mark of Alexander II & III. Plate 9.75 inches (25 cm) in diameter, the serving bowl 7.5 inches (19 cm) in diameter.

This service was ordered for the future Emperor Alexander III while he was still a Grand Duke and was used at the Anichkov Palace in Saint Petersburg.
