A FINE RUSSIAN SILVER-GILT NIELLOED AND CLOISONNÉ ENAMELED COSSACK STYLE SHASHKA, SOVIET PERIOD. The curved handle with panther head pommel, filigree collar, set with seed pearl atop a cloisonné enameled grip on one side and a silver-gilt nielloed engraved handle on opposite side. The scabbard set with ornate suspension bands in filigree on one side and niello on the opposite side, and one side of the scabbard ornately decorated in cloisonné enamel with filigree and gem-set drag, the opposite side in silver-gilt and engraved niello work. The cross guard also filigreed and set with paste stones. Containing a double( or serpent tongue-forked) polished blade with indistinguishable marks. Overall length 35.5 inches (90 cm).
