A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. ANTIPY, 18TH CENTURY. An exceedingly finely and fully painted image with exceptional detailing executed on a gold leaf ground. The shoulder length inscription identifies him as the Holy Priest–Martyr Antipy. Overlaid with a very substantial and heavy gilded silver, repousse and chased riza, hallmarked St. Petersburg, circa 1790 and with EP makers mark. Verso of icon with later dedicatory inscription dated 1909, from the parents of a young man in commemoration of his betrothal to a Maria Alevseyevna Grigorieva. 14.4 inches x 12 inches (36.6 x 30.7 cm).
