A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD, 19TH CENTURY. Here Christ stands behind the recumbent Mother of God and receives her soul represented as an infant, the apostles gather around her in prayer. Additional saints are also added on the sides and above Christ Mary is shown being assumed into heaven, and the sky is filled with scenes of angels bringing the apostles to the bedside of Mary. 15.3 inches x 12.8 inches (39 x 32.6 cm).
