A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. ALEXANDER NEVSKY, MOROZOV, ST. PETERSBURG, 1897-1908. At center, a naturalistically rendered full-length image of the warrior saint. Overlaid with an exceptional, heavy six-piece repousse and chased silver-gilt riza. The body and clothing in high relief and with finely chased details similar to the embroidered table covering, crown and patterned floor. The halo engraved with an abbreviated title in Old Church Slavonic identifying the subject as, The Holy Good-Believing Prince Alexander Nevsky. Hallmarked St. Petersburg, 1897-1908, Cyrillic makers mark MOROZOV beneath the Imperial Warrant, initialed ИГ and with 84 silver standard. 10.5 inches x 8.75 inches (27 x 22 cm).
