A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MLEKOPITATELNITSA MOTHER OF GOD, 17TH CENTURY. The Milk-Nourishing icon of the Mother of God is said to have been found in the Lavara of Saint Savvas the Blessed in Jerusalem. This particular icon could also be identified with the Blazhennoe Chrevo (Blessed Womb) which is based on Luke 11:27, “Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.” In an excellent state of preservation. 12.25 inches x 10.25 inches (31 x 26 cm).
