A LARGE CHINESE CARVED FULL TIP RHINOCEROS HORN LIBATION CUP. Of archaistic style, the elongated curved horn with shallow cup carved with archaic scrolls, climbing Kylin, and incised cloud forms, the shallow interior with a strap of three bats, in a deep amber horn. Length 12.75 inches (32.5 cm).

Provenance:

Mr. Paul Francis Smith (1901-1985), Kenosha, Wisconsin, thence by decent upon his death to the present owner, his grandson, Mr. baron James Spence Bishop III, Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to the consignor, Mr. Smith, former President & CEO of L.C. Thomsen’s Stainless Steel Manufacturing, Kenosha, Wisconsin, traveled to the Orient in the post wars years where and when it is believe the offered lot was acquired.
