A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE ASCENSION, MOSCOW, CIRCA 1900, CIRCLE OF GURIANOV. At center the Mother of God flanked by two angels of the Lord pointing upward, together with the Apostles who look onward as Christ ascends to heaven in a circle of light supported by angels. Finely painted with extensive chrysography and single hair brush detail, executed on a gold leaf ground, the upper margin inscribed with the title in Old Church Slavonic VOZNESENIE GOSPODNE- The Ascension of the Lord. In an excellent state of preservation, formerly contained in a sealed glazed frame. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 26.75 cm).
