A SCARCE RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT SERAPHIM OF SAROV, WITH LIFE SCENES, CIRCA 1900. At center, in an arched reserve, a three quarters bust image of the beloved saint who died in 1833. The borders with 10 various scenes from his life including feeding bears in the wilderness, being beaten by robbers and praying in his cell with his beloved icon of the Mother of God. Seraphim was glorified (canonized) in 1903 due in large part to the efforts of her Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, and he was one of the saints most revered by the Royal Family. 12.25 inches x 10.5 inches (31 x 26 cm).
