There has been much speculation about who is behind the exceptional work of Viennese enamels from the end of the 19th century exhibiting the mark KB. Some have suggested Karl Bohm (presumably a relative of noted jeweler Hermann Bohm), and others have suggested Karl Bank. However, it is more likely that of Vienna master silver and goldsmith Karl Bender who specialized in exceptional silver-gilt and enamel works inspired by the arts of the Renaissance. From 1875-1880 he operated a workshop located at 63 Wienstrasse and later, from 1881-1892, at 25 Grungasse.
