A FINE AND IMPORTANT VIENNESE ENAMELED GILT AND JEWEL-MOUNTED SCEPTER IN THE RENAISSANCE REVIVAL STYLE, LAST QUARTER OF THE 19th CENTURY.   The finely crafted central staff comprised of five cylindrical sections divided by twist reserves and each with enamel painted scenes depicting European soldier’s repelling Turkish warriors with ramparts in the background (probably the Battle of Vienna 1683) and separated by bands of gilt beading with rope-twist borders. The large ovoid head comprised of ornate radiating and reticulated scrolled and fluted ribs, each mounted with semi-precious gemstones, pearls and further set with a profusion of interspersed enameled masks and near the collar, winged cherub heads. The base of the raised circular finial banded with open scroll-work and set with green semiprecious stones and supporting a finely sculpted gilt figure of Hercules defeating a lion. The pommel set with a large cut and polished emerald paste stone and encircled with four enameled busts of what appears to be Jan III Sobieskii, the hero of the Battle of Vienna.  Apparently unmarked. Length 34.5 inches (87.5cm).
