AN EXQUISITE SILVER-GILT, GEMSTONE AND PEARL MOUNTED EGG FORM CASKET, PROBABLY AUSTRIAN & PROBABLY EARLY 20TH CENTURY. Resting on eight scrolled feet supporting a finely sculpted base with upturned shell-form sides, set with slivered sculpted foliates mounted with semi-precious stones and pearls around an elongated quatrefoil base below a band of enameled foliates and scalloped rim and supporting finely sculpted silvered Ethiopian putties carrying the silver polychrome ostrich egg-style hinged casket within a jeweled net of gilded silver rope-twist wire. The egg-form casket with ornate silver-gilt jeweled banding and with a finely sculpted centrally mounted Lion head latch and similar opposing hinge set with pastes and the top of egg mounted with a finely modeled silvered putto. With spurious Faberge marks. Length 11 inches (28 cm). Weight 75.91 troy ounces.
