A MONUMENTAL ELKINGTON, MASON AND CO. SILVERED PRESENTATION FIGURAL CENTERPIECE, CIRCA 1859.The trefoil shaped plinth with cast foliate scroll and vine surmounted with three large sculpted figures of a monk reading a proclamation, a woman with tray of fish and hunter with fowl, flanking a central column wrapped with grape vines and leaves rising to support a cast foliate armature with grape cluster pendants containing a cut-glass compote with arched scallops. The obverse with an engraved shield form plaque inscribed "Presented to William Jackson Esq., as a token of respect & esteem, by the work people in the employ of Mess. Richard Johnson & Brother, Manchester, January 28, 1859", the verso with a later engraved plaque inscribed "Presented to William Johnson Esqr as a token of respect and esteem by the Workpeople in the employ of Messrs Richard Johnson and Brother Mancester January 28 1859" and "Worshipful Company of Tinplate Workers Alias Wireworkers of the city of London presented by Arthur Lawrence Johnson, M.A. Grandson of William Johnson Both Wireworkers With his Daughter Eleanor Morton Johnson Freeman of the Company to commemorate his Mastership 1941-1942." Stamped hallmarks on base. Height 25 inches (63.5 cm).
