A VERY FINE PAIR OF AUSTRIAN SILVER-GILT FIGURAL CANDLESTICKS, 1ST HALF 19TH CENTURY. Depicting in fully sculpted form, the finely repoussed and chased neo-classic figures a young Hercules and Mercury, each holding a prunus branch terminating with an acanthus form candle socket rising from a bulbous plinth with spreading hexagonal foot repoussed with allegorical scenes representing love, health, beauty, agriculture and war below C-scroll brackets and winged facial masks. Stamped with partially indistinct marks for "Schemnitz"(Austria). Height 12.5 inches (32 cm), weight approximately 48.43 troy ounces.
