A VERY FINE SPANISH RENAISSANCE IVORY INLAY AND TORTOISE SHELL PAPELEIRA ON STAND, 17TH/18TH CENTURY.The upper paneled cabinet inlaid in rosewood and ebony outlined with ivory striping, raised on six ball feet with gilt bronze clawed talons. Containing eight drawer panels framed in inlaid gilt bronze guilloche banding, and each containing two tortoise shell plaques with inlaid and finely incised ivory scenes depicting renaissance life flanking a central hinged door with gilt bronze mounts and a sculpted bronze figure of Diana within recessed portico opening to reveal five additional drawers, each with pairs of inlaid ivory on tortoise plaque scenes below a reticulated gilt bronze gallery with gilt foliate bronze terminals. Displayed on a conforming three-drawer stand with six twist carved legs joined by twist carved stretchers. Height 72 inches (181.5 cm), width 53 inches (134.5 cm), depth 18 inches (46 cm).
