A STAINED AND LEADED GLASS PANEL, MUNICH 19TH CENTURY.The circular panel with an image of Saint Hubert kneeling in prayer within a clearing, his cross bow resting below and in the background a stag with a crucifix between his antlers. Diameter 13.25 inches (33.7 cm).

According to the legend, Hubert was pursuing a magnificent stag, and in a clearing in the forest, the animal stopped and turned. Hubert was astounded at perceiving a crucifix suspended between its antlers, while he heard a voice from the figure of Christ say, "Hubert, unless you turn to the Lord, and lead a holy life, you shall quickly fall into the abyss of Hell!" Saint Hubert is invoked as the patron of hunters, mathematicians, metal workers and opticians.
