A VERY FINE CONTINENTAL GOTHIC REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT CASKET, 17TH/18TH CENTURY.The lid finely carved in deep relief within an arched gothic panel depicting an Imperial eagle grasping a shield form coat of arms and flanked by figural carved bishops above the carved base with Renaissance style busts within carved gothic arched panels and spires. Mounted with wrought iron strapwork with remnants of gilt. Displayed on a contemporary ebonized four legged stand (not illustrated). Length 34 inches (87 cm), depth 17 inches (43 cm), height 13.5 inches (34 cm) (excluding stand), height 21.5 inches (54.5 cm) overall.
