A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE ASCENSION, YAROSLAVL SCHOOL, 17TH CENTURY.  At top center Christ rises to heaven in a circle of light supported by two angels. In the lower central section, the Mother of God is depicted flanked by two angels who point upward while the disciples look on in wonder.  A finely painted icon with highly stylized hills and clouds which are reminiscent of icons related to both the Stroganov and Yaroslavl tradition. 12.25 inches x 10.3 inches (31.3 x 26.3 cm).
