A RUSSIAN ICON OF ST. GEORGE, 19TH CENTURY. George plunges a lance into the dragon beneath his horse which is tethered to a ribbon held by the princes shown at lower right. An angel descends from heaven and places the martyr's crown on the soldier saint, while Christ within a medallion cartouche on the upper margin delivers a blessing. The left border painted with St. Kharlampiy and the right border with St. Paraskeva. The inscription along the upper margin identifies the subject as The Holy Victorious Great Martyr George. 14 inches x 12.25 inches (35.6 x 31.4 cm).
