A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF SAINT MACARIUS, DATED 1889. Here Macarius is depicted kneeling before a cross in the wilderness, his monastery in the background. At top right a gilt abbreviated Slavonic inscription identifies him as, The Holy Venerable Macarius Abbot and Wonderworker of Kalyazin. Verso with indistinct dedicatory inscription dated 1889. 10.75 inches x 8.75 inches (27.4 x 22.1 cm).
