AN INTERESTING RUSSIAN ICON OF THE HODEGITRIA MOTHER OF GOD, IN THE ITALIANATE STYLE, CIRCA 1857. Naturalistically painted on a thin wood panel and retaining the original varnish coat. Overlaid with a silver repoussé frame or riza, hallmarked St. Petersburg, dated 1857 and with Cyrillic maker's mark for Trophim Semenov Bogdanov and 84 silver standard. 11 inches x 8.75 inches (28 x 22 cm).
