A PAIR OF FRANCO/RUSSIAN POLYCHROME AND GLAZED CERAMIC FIGURAL GROUPINGS, END OF 19TH CENTURY. Comprising a large polychromed terra cotta figural humidor depicting a Russian soldier (left) and French soldier (right) amidst battlefield remnants. The integral drum at lower right acting as a match holder, the ribbed piece in the lower front base functioning as a striker, and the stone wall behind them with removable lid acting as a humidor/cigarette holder. Underside of base impressed with the letters BB and numbered 5544 AX. Height 10.25 inches (26 cm). Together with a glazed bisque figure of Tsar Nicholas II and President Felix Faure of France shaking hands, between them a plaque inscribed in Russian "Russia and France" and below, the word "Alliance". Height 8.1 inches (20.5 cm).
