AN ATTRACTIVE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, CIRCA 1890.  The painted panel finely executed in egg tempera using the cross hatching technique and Christ's robes finely rendered with an extensive use of chrysography set on a moss green field. Here Christ delivers a blessing and holds an open book of gospels to John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you..." The entire icon overlaid with a later silver-gilt filigree openwork riza with applied polished silver-gilt halo and decorative corner elements set with paste stones and cabochons in the Pan Slavic style, and bearing spurious marks for Moscow 1908-1917 and the 1st Artel. 10.6 inches x 8.8 inches (27 x 22 cm).
