A VERY FINE RUSSIAN ICON TRIPTYCH, PALEKH, CIRCA 1860. The central panel deeply recessed and displaying an image of the Tikhvin Mother of God, above in an ogee arch reserve, the Old Testament Trinity atop characteristic Palekh clouds. The hinged left wing with a full length image of the Archangel Mikhail and above a six-winged Cherubim. The right wing with the Archangel Gabriel and above a six-winged Seraphim. The entire substantial body overlaid with fine-grained leather and the verso with ornate applied brass strapwork, hinges and decorative elements. Width 12 inches (open) 31 cm.
