AN INTERESTING PROVINCIAL HOLY LAND ICON, 19TH CENTURY. A large and expansive landscape with various buildings and scenes, inscribed in Slavonic on upper margin, "The Holy City of Bethlehem, birthplace of Christ and baptism of Christ." At upper center, the Nativity of Christ is depicted outside of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. In the lower margin, the massacre of the innocent and the expulsion from paradise. The upper right corner with the Baptism of Christ and below a figure identified as St. Savva amidst a large complex. Executed in egg temepra on a gessoed canvas and later transferred to a wood panel. 13 inches x 21.5 inches (33 x 54.5 cm).
