A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE SILVER-GILT AND ENAMEL MONSTRANCE, PAUL BRUNET, PARIS, CIRCA 1890. The quatrefoil base resting on four gargoyles and displaying four large and finely sculptured figures of the Evangelists and further set with filigree mounted with paste stones. The central node with four painted enamel quatrefoil medallions depicting Christ, the Virgin, St. Joseph, and St. Vincent DePaul and also overlaid with filigree and set with paste amethysts. The large central exposition window encircled with filigree scrolling foliage over a blue enamel ground and set with amethyst paste stones and further out still emanating rays set with paste diamonds and behind gilt wavy sunburst rays with cross finial on top inset with filigree over enamel ground and with large paste amethyst. Complete with luna. Marked on base and on luna and with custom fitted velvet lined case. Height 26.75 (68 cm). Total weight 94.7 troy oz.

AN INTERESTING MARBLE AND ORMOLU MOUNTED ILLUMINATED MINATURE GOTHIC SHRINE, PROBABLY AUSTRIAN, CIRCA 1850. The base of carved and polished marble with side columns, mounted with gilt bronze elements and Gothic arch top set with winged cherub heads and a gilt bronze dove above a finely painted image of the Madonna and Child, executed on a thin porcelain translucent support set in a gilt frame. The sides with attached Gothic niches containing St. John Nepomouce (left) and St. Joseph and the infant Christ (right). Verso with latched door opening to reveal a luminary recepticle beneath a substantial handle and with vented canopy top. Overall height 11.5 inches (29 cm).

A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE GILT-BRONZE AND CHAMPLEVÉ ENAMEL RELIQUARY, PERHAPS POUSSIELGUE-RUSAND, PARIS, CIRCA 1890. The cylindrical container set within an interesting gilt-bronze frame resting on four feet holding a ring of waves, two of the feet sculpted as bearded figures, the other two rising to support representations of, presumably, the royal Saints whose relics were once contained within. The sides in champlevé enamel depicting the Raising of Lazarus and the Flight into Egypt, inspired by Limoges enamels produced in the 12th and 13th centuries. The large circular hinged lid with a figural finial handle and enameled with a medallion emblazoned with the abbreviation "IHS" surmounted by a cross above three spikes, and the outside borders with emanating rays. Greatest width 9.4 inches (24 cm). Height 7 inches (17.7 cm).

A VERY FINE SPANISH DAMASCENED IRON BOOK COVER, ALVAREZ, TOLEDO, CONTAINING A BOOK OF HOURS PRINTED BY GRUEL AND ENGELMANN, PARIS, 1875. The hinged metal covers and spine profusely decorated in gilt and silver inlay. The front cover with a cross set within a central medallion amidst decorative repeating patterns. The back cover with similar design displaying a cross, the implements of the Passion and the Latin letters IHS, abbreviating the name Jesus. The spine also similarly decorated with repeating patterns and the hinged clasps signed in gilt, ALVAREZ TOLEDO. The interior containing a Petites Heures, printed in color lithograph with illustrations and script in the XVI century taste and with French text. Profusely illustrated with faux hand illuminated images and text pages, gilt tipped pages and moiré silk end sheets. 160 printed pages plus an additional 90 blank bound pages. Page 160 with publishers imprint, Noms des Collaborators Engelmann et Graf imprimaturs chromolithographs, 12, rue de l’Abbaye a Paris, Ed. Moreau, peintre miniaturiste, A. Pralon, dessinateur chromolithographed, Gruel-Engelmann, editeur 35, rue Boissy d’Anglais a Paris 1875. In excellent condition. 4.75 inches x 3.5 inches (12 x 9 cm).

AN INTERESTING SILVER-GILT CROSS FORM AND WOOD RELIQUARY, PROBABLY GERMAN, 17TH CENTURY. The silver-gilt cross form reliquary with rope-twist borders and with cross form exposition windows. The fitted cover opening to reveal the remnant of a carved wood reliquary receptacle. Incomplete. The verso of base chased with symbols of the Passion and also with rope-twist borders and emblazed with the Latin abbreviation, "IHS." Together with carved pearwood carrying case with fitted sliding lid opening to reveal a deeply carved cross form reserve to hold the cross. The lid set with a silver cross nielloed with cross form at center and the Latin abbreviation "ICXC." Apparently containing no relics. The gilt reliquary cross 4.6 inches x 2.2 inches (11.6 x 5.6 cm). The case 6.5 inches x 3.1 inches (16.6 x 8 cm).
