AN INTERESTING RUSSIAN ICON OF THE VLADIMIR MOTHER OF GOD, DATED 1784. Constructed in a manner similar to the typical Plaschanitsa, the flesh of the icon executed on padded leather or treated cloth and incorporated into an embroidered riza worked in silver thread. The verso with indigenous hand written inscription rendered in Old Russian, “City of Alexandrov, Dormition Convent Monastery of the Nun Eustratia, 12 day of December 1784.” 5.75 inches x 4.75 inches (14.5 x 12 cm).
