A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE VENERABLE MAKARIY ZHELTOVODSKII, CIRCA 1700. Traditionally painted in strong colors, the saint depicted full length in an attitude of prayer facing Christ who, in the upper left corner, delivers a blessing. Makariy was considered a Wonder Worker and is credited with the founding of four monasteries in the Middle and Upper Volga regions of Russia. 12.25 inches x 10 inches (31.2 x 25.5 cm).
