A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE APPEARANCE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD TO VENERABLE SERGIY OF RADONEZH, CIRCA 1800. This icon reproduces the famous 16th century icon of the same subject being the central panel of a triptych from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, now held in the Sergiev Posad Museum. The lengthy inscription follows that of the prototype which is a lengthy narrative describing the specific history of the icon and in particular its relation to the Russian army. 12.25 inches x 10.4 inches (31 x 26 cm).
