Lot 361
A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE TRANSFIGURATION WITH SELECTED SAINTS MOSCOW WORKSHOP, DATED 1908.  At top center within an ogee arched reserve an image of the Transfiguration and below a gathering of eight saints. From the left to right they appear to be The Holy Monastic Saint Eugenia, St. Alexander Nevsky, probably St. Roman and the young St. Dmitry, St. Nicholas, Saint Alexandra, Saint Olga (?), and the Apostle St. Peter. The quality and style of painting surely point to a Moscow workshop employing painters trained in Mstera or Palekh, perhaps the workshop of Gurianov. The lower margin inscribed "In the Year from the Creation of the World 7416, the 7th day of January (1908).” 15 inches x 17.25 inches (38 x 44 cm).
Estimate:  $3,000 - 5,000   € 2,100 - 3,500
Price Realized: $3,000.00
