A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE HOLY VISAGE, TRINITY POSAD WORKSHOP, CIRCA 1890. Here the face of Christ is shown as it was miraculously transferred onto a cloth. Painted on an ornately incised gilt ground, the borders painted in faux enamel and the lower margin inscribed with the standard title for this image, “THE IMAGE NOT-BY-HANDS-MADE.” The verso with workshop stamp of the CRAFTSMAN OF THE TRINITY DISTRICT (КУСТАРНИКИ ТРОИЦКАГО ПОСАДА), and with the Imperial Warrant at center of stamp. 7 inches x 5.25 inches (18 x 13.3 cm).
