A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE GREAT PRINCE VLADIMIR, PALEKH, CIRCA 1890. At top center within an arched reserve, Christ delivers a blessing above characteristically painted Palekh clouds. Below, stands a full length image of Vladimir who wears ornately embroidered and jewel encrusted royal robes and a crown. He holds a scepter in one hand and in the other a cross and in the background Kiev. The large inscribed Slavonic inscription identifies him as the "HOLY GOOD-BELIEVING PRINCE VLADIMIR." 35 inches x 28 inches (89 x 71 cm).
