Lot 430
A FINE RUSSIAN ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD MELTER OF EVIL HEARTS, CIRCA 1800. It would seem likely that the offered icon was inspired by Roman Catholic imagery. Here the Mother of God is shown with seven swords on her breast. It is sometimes referred to as the "Prophecy of Simeon" because it depicts the prediction of the aged Simeon (Luke 2:35) that a sword would pierce the soul of Mary. The borders with the Venerable Paul Komelskey and the Venerable Ksenia. 13.2 inches x 12 inches (33.5 x 30.5 cm).
