A RUSSIAN ICON OF THE RESURRECTION AND DESCENT INTO HADES, YAROSLAVL, 17TH CENTURY.  At center a highly accomplished rendering of the Descent into Hades as depicted in the lower region and the Resurrection depicted in the upper region, together with post-Resurrection scenes, and set into a later (circa 1900) panel. The borders with the Guardian Angel (left) and the Holy Deacon Stephan (right). The upper margin inscribed, "THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST." And the panel with double kovcheg. 15.75 inches x 13.3 inches (40 x 34 cm).
